| This was the fifth lineup of Metallica and the
first to include Kirk Hammett this is generally referred to as the
classic lineup. This line up was interrupted when James broke his arm in
a skateboarding accident. During this period 27/07/86 - 25/09/86 John Marshall
(kirks guitar tech) filled in for James on guitar. It was only a
day after James started to play guitar again that Cliff Burton
tragically lost his life in a bus accident while on tour. October
1986 was when the auditions for Cliffs replacement happened. |

| This was the sixth lineup of Metallica and the
first to include Jason Newsted this is generally referred to as the
second classic line up. This lineup was interrupted after James got
burnt in the accident at Montreal when again John Marshall (kirks guitar tech)
filled in for James on the guitar between the dates of 25/08/92 -
??/09/92. This lineup was also interrupted when James threw his
back out in July 2000 and for three shows between 07/07/00 - 09/07/00 Kid Rock sang on 6
tracks, Jason sang on 5 tracks, Fieldy sang on one track & Jonathan
Davies sang on one track. Several guitarists also filled in. |
