The original bass player before Cliff Burton joined the band. Ron was good friends with James Hetfield going back to when they were in middle school together. They formed a band together called "Leather Charm" before
James joined Lars to make Metallica. Ron never wrote or recorded any official songs with Metallica except for a few cover songs and demos, one of
which was the very first version of "Hit The Lights" featuring Lloyd Grant on lead guitar. Some of those early demos and recordings were recorded in Ron's garage. He eventually left the band because of personal problems with the band and was replaced by Cliff Burton in
late 1982. Ron went on to other things including a brief stint with "Hirax" and was featured in Metallica's Behind The Music special on VH-1 in 1998.
